BRUSSELS, May 5 (KUNA) -- The European Unioon and Canada will launch
negotiations towards a new economic and free trade agreement during their
summit meeting in Prague on Wednesday.
The summit agenda will cover a range of issues including the follow-up to
the recent G-20 meeting in London and Afghanistan, where the EU and Canada are
co-operating closely together to promote good governance and the rule of law.
The EU will be represented by European Commission President Jose Manuel
Barroso and the Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek whose country holds the
current EU Presidency. Canada will be represented by Prime Minister Stephen
Harper, according to a statement by the Euroipean Commission Tuesday.
EU-Canada trade is worth some 70 billion euro annually.
"The negotiations towards a new economic and free trade agreement will lift
EU-Canada relations to an altogether new level," said Barroso in press
