KABUL, April 23 (KUNA) -- A policeman and seven Taliban militants were
killed in a clash in western Afghanistan, local officials said.
Separately, the US-led coalition troops killed two militants in southern
Afghanistan and arrested three others in a central province during separate
operations, said the US troops on Thursday.
The first clash took place Khak-e-Safid district of Afghanistan's western
Farah province. One cop and seven militants were killed in the fighting, said
a police officer.
He said the fighting erupted when Taliban attacked a police convoy. No
comment came from the militants.
A statement from the US forces Bagram base said the soldiers killed two
militants in Uruzgan province and arrested three more suspects during an
operation in the central province of Logar.
The US forces said the operation in Uruzgan was conducted on the basis of
intelligence reports that some militants had gathered for a night at temporary
camp.
The US and Afghan troops raided the site and exchange of fire resulted in
the killing of two militants.
The second operation was conducted in Logar province where three suspected
militants were apprehended, said the coalition troops. (end)
