Germany''s gov''t agrees on military operations against maritime piracy

BERLIN, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- The German government agreed Wednesday on a proposal to send the German military force on operations to protect ships in off-shores Somalia from pirates.
A spokesman for the government affirmed that Germany would participate in the EU campaign to fight piracy with about 1,400 soldiers participating.
The German parliament, the (Bundestag), must agree on the proposal during its December 12 session in order for the troops to participate in the mission.
Germany is expected to send its troops to Somalia by next January.
Somalia pirates managed in the previous weeks to attack and captured several commercial fleets' off-shores of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden which promoted the international community to take a decisive action against such acts. (end) sh.gta KUNA 101324 Dec 08NNNN
