NEW DELHI, Aug 7 (KUNA) -- In a major development, as many as six rebels
of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were arrested by police
Thursday in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The rebels were arrested in Tamil Nadus Ramanathapuram district, news
agency Press Trust of India reported quoting a source in the state police.
Their capture was the latest in a series of arrests of LTTE cadres,
including its procurement wing chief Thambianna alias Daniel, in the past few
weeks in Tamil Nadu, which is separated from Sri Lanka by Palk Straits.
A Sri Lankan Tamil refugee Selvakumar was also arrested from Tamil Nadu
capital Chennai on August 5 on charges of trying to supply electronic and
communication gadget to LTTE, the news agency said. (end)
