US troops kill several Taliban
Military and Security    7/16/2008 1:31:00 PM

KABUL, July 16 (KUNA) -- The US-led coalition troops said they killed several Taliban militants in a joint operation with Afghan security forces in southern part of the country.
The fighting erupted when Taliban militants attacked a joint patrol of the Afghan and coalition troops in Shah Walikot district of Kandahar province, said a military statement on Wednesday.
It said the coalition aircraft also destroyed an enemy truck and fighting position. There were no reports of injuries to non-combatants, said the statement.
Meanwhile, the NATO force said their soldiers had abandoned a military post attacked by Taliban militants three days. Nine ISAF soldiers were killed in the fighting.
Mark Laity, NATO spokesman in Kabul said the temporary outpost in Wanat village of Kunar province had been vacated. He said withdrawal of troops from the area was not something unusual. (end) gk.ema KUNA 161331 Jul 08NNNN
