Kuwait oil sector cuts power, water consumption; 16, 13 percent
Power & Materials    7/13/2008 4:08:00 PM

KUWAIT, July 13 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti oil sector has managed to cut its electricity and water consumption by 16 and 13 percent respectively by using steam turbines in oil refiners, a power official said here Sunday.
It has also saved 23 megawatts of electricity by scrapping an ammonia plant, Adel al-Jassem, assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for control and media affairs, told reporters.
An ad hoc power and water conservancy team has exerted stupendous efforts to cut power consumption; including the distribution of power-saving pulps among oil workers at subsidized and cheap prices, he said.
It has also launched wide-scale awareness campaigns for workers in the oil sector regarding practical steps for power conservancy, whether at their workplaces or houses, the official added.
The team has notched up tangible results in the reduction of power and water consumption rates at oil facilities, al-Jassem noted. (end) ahj.abd.mt KUNA 131608 Jul 08NNNN
