ISLAMABAD, July 12 (KUNA) -- More than 22 people have been killed in latest
clashes in a Pakistani northern town, triggered Saturday after militants'
attack on a paramilitary trooper convoy with the aim to kidnap them.
According to Frontier Corps (FC) sources, forces launched an operation and
bombarded several militants hideout after the attack that left at least 18
soldiers wounded.
They told KUNA that more than 22 people including militants and troopers
have been killed in the operation, adding that several were wounded.
Another security source said that at least eight FC personnel were killed
in exchange of fire with militants and 20 others were wounded.
They said the operation was still continuing and that military helicopters
were hovering over the area. They added that more FC force has been called in
to restore law and order in the religiously-sensitive town. (pickup previous)
