KABUL, May 12 (KUNA) -- Inmates suspected to be Taliban have restarted eating food after a weeklong hunger strike at a prison in Afghanistan's southern city of Kandahar. The hunger strike was ended by some 200 prisoners following a group of legislators assured them that their just demands would be communicated to President Hamid Karzai while their cases would be reviewed by the Supreme Court. They said one of the main demand of the prisoners was that they were jailed in fabricated cases following which the delegation assured them that their cases would be reviewed by the Supreme Court. Many prisoners in Afghan jails are being kept for months and years without any trial. Same situation was also seen in Kandahar, where the inmates stopped taking food as a protest.
