Another pro-Musharraf leader beaten by lawyers
Politics    4/8/2008 8:27:00 PM

ISLAMABAD, April 8 (KUNA) -- In what appeared to be ventilation of anger and antipathy against previous pro-Musharraf ruling party, another prominent leader of Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and former Federal Minister was beaten by lawyers in eastern Pakistani city.
Sher Afghan, former Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, went to visit his lawyer in Lahore city when angry lawyers encircled him and started protesting against the treatment meted out to them by PML-Q during its reign.
He remained locked in a room for several hours and when security officials escorted him to his car, lawyers attacked him.
Television footage showed lawyers beating him with kicks, slaps and shoes while policemen trying to shift him to an ambulance for safe escape. But, lawyers followed them, punctured ambulance tyres and smashed window glasses.
When Aitzaz Ahsan, prominent leader of lawyers movement and President of Supreme Bar Association (SBA), tried to save him, he was also manhandled. Barrister Aitzaz condemning the incident announced to resign as President of the SBA.
This was the second incident of manhandling of pro-Musharraf leader reported in a week. Earlier, Arbab Ghulam Rahim, former Chief Minister of Sindh province, was beaten with shoes and kicks by ruling party Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers in the provincial assembly hall.
PML-Q has been blamed for food, power and energy crisis, one of the worst in the countrys history, and widespread corruption. (end) amn.tg KUNA 082027 Apr 08NNNN
