ISLAMABAD, Jan 8 (KUNA) -- The Law-Enforcement Agencies (LEA) in a joint
operation have arrested an Al-Qaeda linked ex-armyman along with six other
militants for masterminding bombing in eastern Pakistani province of Punjab,
said sources.
The Al-Qaeda suspect, being identified as Ehsan-ul-Haq, was arrested in an
overnight raid in Lahore, about 370 kilometers southeast of Islamabad, LEA
sources told KUNA Tuesday.
Sources said that the arrest was made on lead being provided by six
militants, rounded up in last two days in Lahore and Faislabad cities.
They said the Al-Qaeda suspect masterminded two attacks directed at the
Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI) agency and another at a Pakistan Air Force
(PAF) bus in Sargodha.
Sources said further that the two attacks were based on inside information.
They said that the suspect is a retired army Major.
Pakistan has recently seen an upsurge in acts of suicide terrorism directed
against security and intelligence personnel and their establishments, giving a
clear evidence of extent to which pro-Al Qaeda Jihadi elements have penetrated
inside Pakistan's armed forces, the intelligence agencies and the police. (end)
