DAMASCUS, Dec 31 (KUNA) -- Syrian Information Minister Muhsin Bilal said
his country is seeking to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region
and restoring the occupied Golan to Syrian sovereignty.
The Syrian official called on Israel to withdraw from Arab territories
occupied in 1967, grant the Palestinians their right to establish an
independent state and relinquish the remaining occupied parts of southern
Lebanon.
Syria attended the Annapolis peace conference to voice its willing for
peace and restore stability in the region, Bilal said in an interview aired by
the state-owned television.
The minister shed some light on the Lebanese question, saying that his
country is pooling efforts to resolve the Lebanese disputes and the
presidential election problem.
He underscored that Syria's interest is in Lebanon's stability, praising
the deep-rooted brotherly ties between both countries. Syria is also keen on
tackling strains in ties among Arab countries, he added.
Bilal praised the warm welcome accorded to an official Syrian delegation
during a recent visit to Jordan, pointing out that Jordanian officials were
exerting efforts to thrash out issues of mutual concern.
The Syrian-Iranian relations are distinguished at all levels, and this
greatly contributes in serving the interests of both countries' people and the
Arab states, he concluded. (end)
