ISLAMABAD, Nov 12 (KUNA) -- Pakistan's former Prime Minister, Benazir
Bhutto, has been placed under house arrest again to prevent her from holding
long protest march from eastern Lahore city to Islamabad on Tuesday, said
officials Monday.
Bhutto will not be allowed to hold protest march, said Deputy Information
Minister, Tariq Azeem.
He told reporters protest rallies and political meetings were banned in the
Punjab province. "She will not be allowed to break law", he added.
Meanwhile, a journalist Nawaz Ahmed told KUNA from Lahore that hundreds of
policemen have been deployed around the residence of one of her party members,
where she is staying in posh Defence area.
He said police has set up checkposts at enter and exit points and all main
roads leading to the area were blocked.
Meanwhile, a police source said that there were intelligence reports of
suicide attacks on the Bhutto procession. "In the aftermath of life threats,
security around Benazir has been tightened", the source said.
It said further that the government of Punjab province has requested the
federal government for permission to deport Bhutto from the province. However,
no approval has been given in this regard.
Bhutto was put under house arrest Friday in Islamabad to stop her from
leading protest rally in Rawalpindi against President General Pervez
Musharrafs emergency rule. (end)
