BAGHDAD, Nov 4 (KUNA) -- MP for the Sadrist Bloc, Sallam Al-Malki, on
Sunday said he had resigned from the Iraqi Parliament.
"I announce my resignation from the Iraqi Parliament, for different
reasons, some of which are personal .. and there are many other reasons, among
them that the political process would lead to negative consequences," the
resigned MP told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Al-Malki added that fellow MPs had advised him to postpone his resignation.
"I submitted my resignation a year ago, directly after the Nouri Al-Maliki
government was formed, but Al-Sayed Moqtada Al-Sadr asked me to delay it.
"Then I submitted it again after few months, but some fellow MPs, among
them (former Prime Minister Ibrahim Al-Jaffari) and Khalid Attiyah, urged me
to postpone it and I did," he added.
Al-Malki attributed his resignation to the fact that he was not convinced
with the present political situation in the country.
"I am not convinced enough to work amidst such confusing political
situation as the opportunity to work for building a New Iraq has been fading,"
he said denying that his resignation was due to any differences inside the
Sadrist Movement.
The Sadrist Bloc that occupies 30 seats at the Parliament withdrew from the
United Iraqi Alliance (UIA) and last February its leader, Moqtada Al-Sadr
asked the bloc's ministers in the parliament to resign.(end)
