American aircraft raid gunmen foiling bid to attack house in Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Oct 11 (KUNA) -- American air forces in coordination with ground troops killed 13 gunmen over the past 24 hours, the US Army said in a statement released on Thursday.
The air force scrambled into action after being tipped about a group of gunmen poising to assault a residence in the western sector of the capital. The aircraft radars detected the armed elements as they were assembling at a location close to the target.
Back-up aircraft opened fire on the gunmen, instantly killing 10 of them. Shortly later, American ground forces arrived at the scene and radioed to the overflying air force about location of three gunmen trying to hide. The trio were also killed immediately after they were shot upon.
The statement said the three armed men were affiliated to a notorious cell, known for engineering car bomb blasts. (end) ah.rk KUNA 111342 Oct 07NNNN
