DAMASCUS, Oct 7 (KUNA) -- Syrian authorities have taken special precautions
during the current season of birds migration against possible spillover of the
deadly bird flu virus, an official said on Sunday.
Health Assistant Jamil Uwaiyed affirmed at the opening of a workshop on
combating the bird flu disease that the authorities were taking all possible
precautions against the disease considering the passing of many birds at this
time of the year across Syrian air space.
These passing birds land on cultivated fields and water-rich areas while
migrating across Syria.
The outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza began in Asia in
2003. It has killed 201 people since then. (end)
