Eight Brotherhood members remanded in custody in Egypt

CAIRO, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- Egyptian prosecution ordered Monday eight members of the Muslim Brotherhood group remanded in custody for 15 days pending investigations.
The detainees are accused of belonging to a banned group, possession of anti-government leaflets and promotion of destabilizing ideology, the state-run Middle East News Agency (MENA) quoted prosecution sources in Alexandria, north Egypt, as saying.
The investigations made by Alexandria prosecution department revealed that the detainees used to hold meetings at their homes to revive the group and promote its ideology, the sources said.
Egyptian police, engaged in a fresh crackdown against the Muslim Brotherhood, detained 18 members of the country's strongest opposition group at dawn on Sunday, in the coastal city of Alexandria and the northeastern Sharqiya governorate. (end) rg.gb KUNA 201744 Aug 07NNNN
