BAGHDAD, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- A US soldier was killed and two others were
wounded in an explosion in Basra, southern Iraq, the US Army said Thursday.
In a statement, the army said a soldier was killed and two others were
wounded when an explosive device went off as their patrol vehicle was passing
by.
They were on a logistics mission within the vicinity of Basra, it said.
This is the first US fatality to be recorded in August. July witnessed a
drop in American casualties, with a total of 80 soldiers killed that month.
