BAGHDAD, July 28 (KUNA) -- US army forces detained 16 suspected terrorists,
including a "judge," during military operations Saturday in the heart of Iraq.
The US Army said in a statement that its forces were targeted in
synchronized raids in the city of Tarmiyah, northern Baghdad, and detained
senior leaders of Al-Qaeda, as well as the alleged Sharia judge with one of
his advisors.
The forces arrested three more suspects and a close associate of the local
Al-Qaeda leader in Iraq in a raid operation of four buildings in the city of
Samarra, northern Baghdad.
According to the statement, the rest of the detainees were captured in
other combat operations in Tarmiyah and Sammara, and were said to be
bomb-makers. (end)
