Iraq should not be "battlefield" for regional, int''l disputes - Al-Maliki

(With photos) BAGHDAD, June 3 (KUNA) -- Iraq should not become a battlefield for regional and international disputes, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki said Sunday.
During his meeting with regional governors, Al-Maliki said that outside interferences would "open the door" for more conflicts and instabilities in the violent torn-country, adding that Iraq was "for all Iraqis".
Al-Maliki stressed on the methods of dialogue, negotiation and reconciliation in order to establish a partnership among all Iraqi sects, and utilize democratic means to settle all ethnic and religious differences.
The Iraqi Premier noted that such responsibility could not be shouldered only by security officials, but citizens, civil community establishments, political powers and tribes must partake in the process of bringing about security in Iraq.
During the last few days, Al-Maliki began series of meetings with Iraqi officials and leaders to drum up support for a reconciliation plan that aims to reach a unified policy to trim down strife taking place all over Iraq.
Al-Maliki kicked off these meetings in Irbil, where he met yesterday with Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Chairman Masoud Barzani, and then he met with Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) Chairman Abdulaziz Al-Hakim in Baghdad. (end) ahh.hb KUNA 032059 Jun 07NNNN
