BAGHDAD, June 3 (KUNA) -- Iraq should not become a battlefield for regional
and international disputes, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki said Sunday.
During his meeting with regional governors, Al-Maliki said that outside
interferences would "open the door" for more conflicts and instabilities in
the violent torn-country, adding that Iraq was "for all Iraqis".
Al-Maliki stressed on the methods of dialogue, negotiation and
reconciliation in order to establish a partnership among all Iraqi sects, and
utilize democratic means to settle all ethnic and religious differences.
The Iraqi Premier noted that such responsibility could not be shouldered
only by security officials, but citizens, civil community establishments,
political powers and tribes must partake in the process of bringing about
security in Iraq.
During the last few days, Al-Maliki began series of meetings with Iraqi
officials and leaders to drum up support for a reconciliation plan that aims
to reach a unified policy to trim down strife taking place all over Iraq.
Al-Maliki kicked off these meetings in Irbil, where he met yesterday with
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Chairman Masoud Barzani, and then he met with
Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) Chairman Abdulaziz
Al-Hakim in Baghdad. (end)
