Tank shell wounds two women, child, Abdel Shafi says resistance should be defensive By Zakaria Al-Tilmis GAZA, March 9 (KUNA) -- A single Israeli tank shell crashed into a house in the Palestinian refugee camp of Rafah on Sunday wounding two women and a baby girl, witnesses said.
They said the attack was carried out by Israeli troops, manning a tank stationed on the Egyptian-Jordanian border. Simultaneously, several houses were showered with machine-gun fire.
The witnesses said one of the two women who were wounded when the single shell hit the house was suffering from critical cuts.
Israel radio said a Jewish settler was wounded in Naveh Dikalim near Khan Youness, when a Palestinian gunman attacked the settlement. The setter was taken to hospital for treatment.
Palestinian medical sources in Khan Youness said a Palestinian child was wounded with shrapnel of an artillery shell. The child, aged 8, was wounded in the back while he was strolling on a road in the town.
Palestinians in the port city of Gaza said that the body of a fisherman, Ibrahim Abu Saqr, whose boat disappeared in rough seas several days ago, was located today on Gaza beach. Bruises appeared on his body, fuelling strong belief that he might have been roughed up by Israeli naval personnel before drowning him.
Meanwhile, former MP Haidar Abdel Shafi called for reviewing the strategy of resistance against the occupation, saying "the martydom operations have deprived the Palestinian cause of international solidarity.
"The actual condition warrants restricting the fight to defensive means because no one criticizes the people who defend their rights." Several Palestinian leaders have made self-criticisms of the usage of arms in the resistance against the occupation. Among the eminent critics is Mahmoud Abbas, Abu Mazen, freshly chosen to be prime minister of the Palestinian authority.
At least 3,000 people have been killed since the uprising broke out in September 2000. (end) zt.nq.rk KUNA 092227 Mar 03NNNN
