TEHRAN, June 21 (KUNA) -- Iranian and Iraqi officials expressed
satisfaction after talks that included bilateral and regional issues in Tehran
on Tuesday.
Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari expressed satisfaction on his visit
to Tehran, he told a joint press conference, alongside his Iranian
counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi.
On the issue of land and sea borders between the neighbouring nations, he
said the demarcation process was going smoothly and according to the
principles and mutual interests of the two.
He said an upcoming visit of Iran's First Vice President, Mohammad Reza
Rahimi to Iraq next month, would witness the signing of a number of agreements
including anti-taxation, customs cooperation and encouraging dual investment.
He also said Iraq would be facilitating the visit of Iranians to Iraq,
expressing hope his country would be releasing in the near future, Iranian
illegal immigrants imprisoned as a result.
On the agreement for the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq and Washington's
attempts to maintain the presence of some, he said that a meeting between
Iraqi factions had taken place a day earlier to discuss the issue, whereby the
gatherers had seen eye-to-eye on the need for Iraq to fulfill its obligations
and see off the US military by the end of 2011.
On extending the US presence, he said this issue was not discussed at the
congregration, and that this would only be a topic if the Iraqi Cabinet
requires so.
For his part, Salehi said he had discussed bilateral and regional issues
with his Iraqi counterpart.
He noted that a number of Iranian company representatives would be
accompanying the Iran's Rahimi during his visit to Baghdad.
Demarcation teams have successfully completed the majority of their role in
the northernmost part of the borders, he added. (end)
