WASHINGTON, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- The nation's largest-ever eggs recall may be
linked to as many as 2,000 reported illness in at least ten states and will
likely grow, officials said on Thursday.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the salmonella cases,
reported from May to July, 2010, were produced by Wright County Egg company in
Iowa, which has ordered their eggs recalled from store shelves. The CDC said
it cannot say for certain if all of the reported 1,953 salmonella cases were
due to the outbreak.
However, the number of cases reported to the CDC is likely to expand as
more information becomes available, according to Christopher Braden, acting
director of the CDC's division of foodborne, waterborne and environmental
diseases.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating sanitation
conditions at the egg processing facility, including rodent control, said
Sherri McGarry, director of public health and biostatistics at the FDA's
Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. (end)
