ARBIL, July 10 (KUNA) -- Col. Eid El-Names, director of the police station
of Al-Qaiyara town, east of Mosul city, has survived a bid on his life while a
policeman was killed on Saturday.
Unknown gunmen opened fire at El-Names's convoy, injuring El-Names and two
bodyguards before fleeing the scene to an unknown destination, KUNA learned.
Soon after the attack, the local security services launched a crackdown
campaign in a bid to track down the attackers, which triggered an armed
confrontation.
The clash between policemen and the insurgents led to the killing of a
policeman and the injuring of another police colonel, a security source said.
