GAZA, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- The de facto Hamas government in Gaza announced on
Tuesday it would release 50 prisoners of its rival political faction Fatah,
detained on security grounds, as a good will gesture on the occassion of the
holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement it said as well it would release a further 50 prisoners with
criminal cases, adding that the decision comes to spread an atmosphere of
harmony and as a response to intervention by its legislative council.
The statement however did not mention the date of their release.
Fatah recently accused security forces in Gaza of arresting over 160
members of its party operating in the region. (end)
