Pakistani forces kill 15 militants in northern valley

ISLAMABAD, Nov 26 (KUNA) -- The security forces Monday claimed killing 16 militants including their two commanders in scenic northern Sawat valley of Pakistan.
Forces targeted the mountaintop positions of militants, loyal to local radical cleric Maulana Fazlullah, throught the night, a local government spokesman Amjad Iqbal told reporters in Sawat.
He said militants suffered heavy casualties, adding two rebel commanders were killed in the operation.
Security officials told KUNA that forces were still continuing operation against militants in the area. They said since Sunday night more than 50 militants have been killed and over a dozen were wounded.
Military spokesman Waheed Arshad said on Monday at least 15 more militants were killed. He said security forces have regained control of four to five areas .
Security forces have been fighting local militants since last three weeks in Sawat valley. The operation was launched after supporters of Maulana Fazlullah, known as Mullah Radio, intensified attacks on security forces, killing near 50 in a week. (end) amn.bz. KUNA 261541 Nov 07NNNN
