KUWAIT, Dec 22 (KUNA) -- 1911 -- The first curricular school, Al-Mubarakiya, was opened in Kuwait. The school, named after Kuwait's seventh ruler Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, cost 16,000 rupees to build. The money was donated by Kuwaiti dignitaries. Yousef Al-Qinae was appointed the school's first principal.
1964 -- The Kingdom of Sweden inaugurated its embassy in Kuwait.
1999 -- His Highness the Amir issued a decree by which UN organizations in Kuwait can obtain, for free, land plots located in West Mishref. The decree allows UN organizations to utilize 3,000 square meters in the diplomatic area.
2001 -- Physicians at Al-Sabah Hospital conducted a rare surgery in the ear to transplant a "cochlea" for a young man and a girl.
2001 -- The National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters announced names of talented Kuwaiti winners of the state's awards for culture for the year 2001. The winners included musician Ahmad Baqer, formative artist Ayyoub Hussein Al-Ayyoub, and founder and owner of Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiya Sheikha Hussah Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
2001 -- The Forum of Islamic Fiqh (jurisprudence) inaugurated its 13th session under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
2002 -- Chairman of the Municipal Council Roudan Al-Roudan inaugurated the "Anjafa" beach on Cooperation Road opposite Salwa.
2008 -- Minister of Information Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah opened the 15th session of Al-Qurain Festival, the state's honorary award for 2008 was granted to Oqab Mohammad Al-Khateeb, Bader Khalid Al-Bader, and Hayat Al-Fahad.
2009 -- Equate Petrochemicals Company announced the launch of operations in aromatics complex, worth USD 2 billion.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah attended the 75th anniversary celebration of Kuwait Oil Company.(end) ag
