KUWAIT, June 16 (KUNA) -- 1960 -- Kuwait joins the International Civil Aviation Organization.
1966 -- First Ambassador of Switzerland to Kuwait presents credentials to late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.
1982 -- Late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues decree on increasing salaries of civil servants, military personnel, retirees' pensions and amending laws concerning basic pay and main allowances. The law stated a revision was required every two years to consider whether further increase was needed to cope with mounting living costs.
1994 -- The Cabinet issues a decision to limit consumption of brackish water used for irrigation. This water was provided three times a week for all residential areas.
1997 -- Kuwait and Macedonia establish ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations.
1998 -- The National Assembly (Parliament) hall witnesses interpellation of Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Sabah, upon a motion presented by MP Hussein Al-Gallaf concerning purported failure in curbing drug use, violence, unlicensed use of weapons, corruption and impunity. The item was crossed off the agenda when the MP walked out in protest over approval of a Government request for a closed-door session to continue the minister's grilling.
1999 -- Kuwait signs an agreement of guarantees and privileges for the Hamburg-based International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, concerning cases submitted by litigants on breaches in States' regional waters and sea activities.
2000 -- Al-Salmiya Sports Club wins Fahad Al-Ahmad Football Tournament for the fourth time.
2003 -- Kuwait signs an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) on fighting tobacco. Kuwait was the first Arab country to sign this convention.
2009 -- The Ministry of Health declares first swine flu case; a Kuwaiti student who returned home from the United States of America.
2011 -- Kuwait wins membership in a UNESCO-affiliated commission tasked with boosting cultural diversity.
2012 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah orders three days of mourning for demise of Saudi Crown Prince Nayef Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
2013 -- Constitutional Court rejects appeals against the one-vote decree and re-election law for the National Assembly. The court nullified results of the December 2012 parliamentary elections, calling for appropriate measures to take place.
2013 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah delivers a speech to citizens regarding the Constitutional Court decision on the one-vote decree and re-election law. Cabinet also held an extraordinary meeting to discuss the Constitutional Court decision. (end) gta
