KUWAIT, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- 1956 -- Moudhi Al-Sarhan was enrolled by the general security department as a jailor. She became the first Kuwaiti woman to work in the Ministry of Interior.
1971 -- State of Kuwait ratified the "Intelsat agreement" and a corresponding operation accord, signed in Washington on August 20, 1971. (Intelsat, S.A. is a communications satellite services provider. Originally formed as International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (INTELSAT), it was from 1964 to 2001 an intergovernmental consortium owning and managing a constellation of communications satellites providing international broadcast services.
As of March 2011, Intelsat operates a fleet of 52 communications satellites, which is one of the world's largest fleet of commercial satellites.) 1981 -- An Amiri Decree was issued on forming the Sharia and Islamic Studies College, Kuwait University (KU).
1990 -- His Highness the (late) Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah sponsored the historic Kuwaiti Popular Conference in Jeddah under the slogan "Liberation is our Motto, Way, and Goal".
1990 -- Kuwait News Agency resumed normal broadcasting from its temporary headquarters in the British capital, London.
1999 -- Minister of Health Dr. Mohammad Al-Jarallah opened the Al-Qurain Medical Center.
2002 -- Kuwait handball team won the silver medal during the 14th Asian championship in South Korea.
2002 -- State of Kuwait and Jordan signed the agreement for forming a higher committee for fostering bilateral relations in all fields.
2002 -- The Cabinet approved a draft law on Kuwait's membership in the International Agreement of Combating Terrorism.
2002 -- The Cabinet took a historic decision on making the Kuwaiti Dinar a US Dollar pegged currency starting January 2003. This was based on two decisions taken by the GCC as a step for uniting currencies of the GCC states.
2008 -- The Cabinet approved a decision to establish a rehabilitation center in the Ministry of Interior, in cooperation with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Education, Justice, Social Affairs, Labor, and Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, aimed at educating those with radical thoughts and behavior and educating them about Islam and patriotism.
