KUWAIT, Feb 8 (KUNA) -- 1942 -- The Imperial Persian Bank, known as the British Bank, commences operation in Kuwait. Its name is changed to the British Bank of the Middle East in 1971.
1952 -- Kuwait Teachers' Club begins its campaign for wiping out illiteracy.
1955 -- One of Kuwait's greatest figures in public service, Abdulmohsen Nasser Al-Kharafi, passes away at the age of 56.
1965 -- Osrati, a women's weekly magazine published by Fahad Al-Marzouk press house, hits the news stands.
1965 -- The First Conference of Arab Journalists is hosted in Kuwait, aimed at placing a unified draft law governing press in the Arab world.
1978 -- The Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, issues a decree appointing Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as the country's Prime Minister and tasks him with forming the 10th Kuwaiti government.
2003 -- GCC foreign and defense ministers agree in Jeddah on a Kuwaiti request to send Peninsula Shield forces to Kuwait to help face Iraqi threats.
2006 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues an Amiri order stipulating the referral to the Prime Minister as His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. (end) lb
