KUWAIT, April 2 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- With attendance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and Saudi King Saud Bin Abdul-Aziz, first cargo of oil from Al-Khafji offshore oil field in the neutral zone was shipped to Japan during a major ceremony.
1974 -- Kuwaiti Shipbuilding and Repair-yard Company was set up, with a capital of KD 10 million.
1981 -- The State of Kuwait signed the 1969 Brussels International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage.
1986 -- First plane for Kuwait Airways Corporation (a Boeing 767-200) landed in Kuwait flying from Seattle, the US. It was a record flight at the time for the plane has flown 14 hours for a distance of 12,600 kms.
1994 -- His Highness the Then Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, inaugurated the International Conference on effects of the Iraqi aggression on Kuwait.
2000 -- Prominent journalist Jassem Mohammed Al-Mutawa passed away at the age of 57. Al-Mutawa was the Editor in Chief of Al-Watan newspaper and member of the Kuwaiti Journalists Association. He also served as KUNA board member.
2002 -- The National Assembly agreed on amendments of the social security law and increase of pensions.
2005 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet and Parliament Affairs Mohammad Dhaifallah Sharar lays cornerstone of the cultural village project, which comes under the first phase of a larger project to beautify and preserve the cultural identity and features of Kuwait City.
