KUWAIT, August 1 (KUNA) -- 1953 -- A postal office was opened at Ahmadi Port, managed by Kuwait Oil Company.
1960 -- The Kuwaiti ruler, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issued a decree on safety precautions from anthrax.
1964 -- Law 37/1964 was issued on establishing the Central Tenders Committee, affiliated with the cabinet, and tasked with reviewing bids with the exception of those related to the Ministry of Defense and related ammunition and military equipment.
1964 -- Law 38/1964 was issued on regulating private sector activities.
1977 -- Theatrical artist Abdulaziz Al-Masoud passed away at the age of 41. He had contributed to the establishment of the popular theater in 1963.
1982 -- Kuwaiti Cardio Society was declared.
1984 -- Interior Minister Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah ordered replacement of the General Department of Immigration, Passports and Residence with two new departments; the Public Department for Immigration Affairs and the Public Department for Nationality and Passports.
1990 -- The Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah met Iraq's Deputy Chairman of the Revolution's Leadership Council Ezzat Ibrahim in Jeddah. The meeting focused on obstacles resulting from Iraq's refusal to discuss Kuwaiti proposals on the border issue. Talks failed.
1995 -- The National Assembly approved a law allowing a married, divorces or widowed woman the right to retire after 15 years of service, instead of 20, regardless of her age.
1998 -- Kuwaiti athlete Fouzi Dahash Al-Shimiri won the bronze medal in the 400 km race in the world tournament for track-and-field, held in Nice, France.
1998 -- Maritime Rescue Center was inaugurated in Ras Al-Salmiya at the total cost of nearly KD 2.3 million.
2006 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree for the redrawing of constituencies, bringing down the number from 25 to five. Ten candidates are to be elected from each constituency, and each eligible citizen can vote for four candidates.
2006 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree amending some articles of the social security law, thereby stopping the deduction of installments from retirees who have completed payment of loans taken against their salaries.
2006 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued a decree appointing Dr. Abdullah Sulaiman Al-Fahad as advisor for higher education and rector of Kuwait University. (end) gta
