ADEN, Sept 10 (KUNA) -- Yemeni Water and Environment Minister Tawfeeq Al-Sharjabi Saturday launched a water project, funded by the Kuwait Society for Relief, in Aden and Lahj governorates that includes wells and the largest solar-powered electric plant across the country.
Speaking during the inauguration of the project, Al-Sharjabi said the project comprises 10 wells in the 'Aabar Nasser' well field to ensure sustainable water in Aden and some parts of Lahj. The project will benefit about 1.4 million in those cities, he added, indicating it is one of the largest and most important Kuwaiti projects in Aden.
The project involves installing a solar-powered electric power plant at a capacity of 610 kW.h and a new 1.5-km length electric network, he noted.
Over the past years, the Kuwait Society for Relief carried out 29 water and environment projects in 13 governorates to contribute to solving the issue of water scarcity facing many cities and areas in Yemen. (end) sns.maa.hm
