UN HRC postpones vote on E. Ghouta resolution

GENEVA, March 2 (KUNA) -- UN Human Rights Council President Vojislav Suc said Friday a vote on a draft resolution submitted by Britain over humanitarian situation in Eastern Ghouta, Syria, has been postponed.
Suc, in remarks at conclusion of an urgent HRC debate over Eastern Ghouta, said the council would meet next Monday to discuss some amendments to the draft resolution.
He explained that the amendments were presented by Russia and South Africa, who wanted to tone down the the language of the draft resolution, which blamed Russia and Syria for failing to implement UN Security Council resolution 2401.
Resolution 2401, adopted unanimously by the UNSC members late last month, established a 30-day truce to allow delivery of humanitarian aid for the people in need.
The UN Human Rights Council consists of 47 members, none has a veto power over the council's resolutions which are either adopted by unanimous or majority. (end) ta.bs
