Arab ministers to resume Jerusalem meet Feb. 1

CAIRO, Jan 10 (KUNA) -- Arab foreign ministers will resume meetings as of February 1st to follow up on repercussions of the recent US decision on the holy city Jerusalem.
The Arab League said in an official memorandum, addressed to member states, that the planned meeting would be held at the league headquarters and would be complementary to the session held on December 9th.
The ministers, during the December meeting, considered the session as "open," and tentatively decided to resume it in a month to re-examine the issue and ponder prospected steps such as holding an extraordinary summit.
The league said in the memo that the next meeting would be in light of decisions taken at a "mini meeting," held in Jordan on January 6th." Participants in the December gathering called for intensifying efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict politically, emphasizing necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
They had also affirmed dire consequences of Washington's decision, noting the historic and religious status of the city. US President Donald Trump has recently "recognized Jerusalem as capital of Israel," also expressing intention to shift the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. (end) mfm.asm.rk
