EU unemployment rate lowest since 2008

BRUSSELS, Jan 9 (KUNA) -- The EU unemployment rate was 7.3 percent in November 2017, down from 7.4 in October 2017 and from 8.3 in November 2016.
This is the lowest rate recorded in the EU since October 2008 according to figures published by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, Tuesday.
The euro area unemployment rate was 8.7 percent in November 2017, down from 8.8 in October 2017 and from 9.8 in November 2016. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since January 2009.
Eurostat estimated that 18.1 million men and women in the EU, of whom 14.2 million in the euro area, were unemployed in November 2017. Compared with October 2017, the number of persons unemployed decreased by 155,000 in the EU and by 107,000 in the euro area. Compared with November 2016, unemployment fell by 2.1 million in the EU and by 1.5 million in the euro area. (end) nk.nhq
