Turkish police arrest 5 foreigners over plans for New Year attacks

ANKARA, Dec 31 (KUNA) -- Turkey's police have arrested five foreigners suspected of links with the so-called Islamic State (IS), for planning attacks during New Year celebrations in Ankara, the authorities said on Sunday.
The intelligence and anti-terror unit raided two houses in the capital, and seized the five foreigners; three Syrians, an Iraqi and a Chechen, the Anadolu news agency quoted security sources as saying.
They also found several forged IDs and passports, as well as IS documents, the sources added.
Earlier today, the Turkish authorities said they had arrested 20 IS suspects in Istanbul, as the police took intensive security measures during the New Year celebrations.
That night last year, an attack on Istanbul's Reina nightclub killed 39 and wounded 79. (end) rs.msa
