Nat'l Assembly extol Kuwait's stance on US Jerusalem move

KUWAIT, Dec 20 (KUNA) -- MPs on Wednesday voiced their pride over the Kuwaiti Government's stance toward the recent US move on Jerusalem.
They praised His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's reiteration of Kuwait's historical stance during the Islamic summit held in Istanbul last week.
Today the National Assembly resumed discussions of a parliamentary request on US President Donald Trump's decision of December 6 recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital and giving orders to begin preparations to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to the holy city.
Following the discussions, the parliament approved a host of recommendations on Jerusalem, which expressed the Kuwaiti people's stance toward the issue and stressed the fact that Jerusalem is the "eternal capital of Palestine." The MPs recommended speeding up steps for the formation of a parliamentary committee to support the Palestinian, and other afflicted people.
They also called upon the government, through embassies and representation offices, to continue denunciation and opposition of the US decision.
In addition, the government has been urged to embark on executive procedures to realize a full recognition of the State of Palestine, which must have full representation in all the international organizations.
The MPs affirmed that Jerusalem is a pivotal and major UN, and an Arab and Muslim issue.
Denouncing the US decision, they said that Kuwait has been embracing Palestinian struggle and would carry on with support to the cause.
The legislators lauded National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim's efforts and adoption of the Jerusalem issue.
Also during today's session, the MPs discussed a second parliamentarian request and approved recommendations on enhancing national unity and reconciliation as well as consolidating the domestic front amid several internal and regional dangers.
The recommendations urged the government and the parliament to enact a legislation on forming a special body for managing crises and disasters, like many other countries.
The government has also been asked to submit an annual report to the National Assembly on the State's arrangements to face dangers and crises.
By the same token, the parliament was urged to form an interim committee to work on a report on the State's readiness to face crises and disasters.
Also on the local level, the MPs stressed the need of developing effective solutions to the urgent problems. They also called for a realistic governmental vision to enhance citizens' confidence in the government.
Deputy Speaker Allam Al-Kandari adjourned the session to December 26.
