Kuwaiti Commerce Min. draws link between ethics and development

KUWAIT, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- Following a strict code of professional ethics is crucial to achieve rapid development in myriad fields, Kuwait's Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan said on Monday.
Addressing a Kuwait Banking Association (KBA)-hosted forum on professional ethics, Al-Roudhan, who is also Acting Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said that being ethical was both a moral and religious obligation.
He pointed out that a lack of a code of conduct could lead to diminished trust and cooperation in the workplace, saying that the one-day forum represents a genuine effort to generate public awareness on sound moral principles.
The Kuwaiti minister urged public and private corporations alike to put in place strict codes of conduct and rules of decorum, citing transparency and behavioral integrity as other much needed virtues.
Meanwhile, KBA's Chairman Majed Al-Ajeel touted the forum as the first of its kind and a testament to the Kuwaiti leadership's eagerness to motivate the national workforce.
He added that KBA aspires to be a major contributor the development and growth of the national economy. (end) abd.nam
