Attack on educational institute kills 9, wounds 35 in N. Pakistan

ISLAMBAD, Dec 1 (KUNA) -- At least nine people were killed and around 35 others wounded as armed men stormed Agricultural Training Institute in Pakistan's northern Peshawar city, military officials said Friday.
Pakistan military's media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation has been completed and all "militants" have been neutralized.
Provincial police chief, Inspector General Salahudin Mehsud confirming the attack, and told KUNA that at least two explosions have been heard from inside the campus.
All roads leading to the area have been sealed due to heavy firing.
Hayatabad Medical Complex spokesperson confirmed that at least nine people were killed and over 35 others, including security personnel were injured in the attack.
According to initial police reports, four militants stormed the hostel of the institute. All the attackers have been killed while a clearance operation is underway in the area. ISPR confirmed that two soldiers were injured in the attack and shifted to military hospital.
Suicide jackets, hand grenades, two bombs and one pistol were recovered from inside the building of the Agricultural Directorate.
According to local media, banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security in and around Peshawar city is put on high alert amid terror threat.
The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions in the provincial capital.
The attack came at a time when terrorism incidents have been reduced significantly in the country following "Operation Raddul Fasaad" by military across Pakistan.
Hundreds of suspected terrorists have reportedly either been killed or arrested in raids carried out by security personnel since the start of the operation. (end) sbk.mb
