S. Korea, China seek peaceful resolution to N. Korea issue

TOKYO, Nov 23 (KUNA) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa said Thursday that Seoul and Beijing have reaffirmed their stance on pursuing a peaceful resolution to the North Korea crisis, public broadcaster KBS reported on Thursday.
"We agreed to use all diplomatic tools to stop the North from launching another provocation and to cooperate closely to maintain a stable situation on the Korean Peninsula," Kang was quoted as telling reporters in Seoul after a bilateral meeting with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing the previous day.
In a separate report, KBS said that Wang urged Kang to implement its recent agreement with China aimed at ending their diplomatic row over the deployment of an advanced US anti-ballistic missile interceptor system, known as the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD).
Wang noted that South Korea said in a joint press statement with China on Oct. 31 that it would not join the US missile defense system and the THAAD battery temporarily installed in South Korea will not impair China's safety or interests.
In response, Kang expressed hope that the two countries will make their utmost efforts to normalize their ties as agreed in the recent statement. (end) mk.mb
