Russia Defense Ministry says 12 commanders of Nusra killed

MOSCOW, Oct 4 (KUNA) -- Russia Defense ministry said on Wednesday that their forces killed 12 field commanders of Al-Qaeda's former Syria affiliate Jabhat Al-Nusra, adding the group's top leader Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani had lost an arm and was in a "critical condition." The ministry said in a statement, the attack occurred as a result of an air strike, adding that the leader of Jabhat Al-Nusra Abu Mohammed Al-Jolani received multiple serious shrapnel wounds, lost an arm and is in a critical condition.
The ministry noted that Russian warplanes targeted a site for Al-Sham group, attended by many of its leaders, and after confirming reports of their location and the nature of their meeting.
The statement added that around 50 members were presumed dead, among them 12 field commanders of the Al-Nusra.
The ministry explained that the mission comes to continue eliminating all participants who targeted a Russia police checkpoint in Idlep last September. (end) as.mb
