Al-Raqqa cleared of IS militants - SOHR

AMMAN, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported Thursday that Al-Raqqa city, northeast Syria, is totally cleared off the gunmen belonging to the so-called Islamic State (IS).
The IS has finally lost its stronghold after 108 days, following Operation Wrath of Euphrates launched by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on June 6.
During the fighting nearly 3,100 persons, including combatants and civilians, were killed and 80 percent of the bulidings were damaged, informed sources told SOHR.
The SDF will announce full recapture of the city after ending the combing operation and cleaning the city of the landmines planted by the IS militants before they flee, the sources added. (end) tk.gb
