ISTANBUL, Sept 20 (KUNA) -- A Turkish police officer was shot dead, while another was seriously injured in an Istanbul neighborhood on Wednesday.
The incident occurred as unknown gunmen reportedly opened fire at the policemen as the suspects drove by a checkpoint in Gaziosmanpasa district.
Police said they had apprehended the perpetrators, who attempted to escape the scene after their car crashed into the pavement, Anadolu News Agency reported.
Meanwhile, one of the two officers, who were both rushed to the hospital, succumbed to his injuries. (end)
