Employment up by 0.4 pct in euro area, EU

BRUSSELS, Sept 13 (KUNA) -- The number of persons employed increased by 0.4 percent in both the euro area and in the EU in the second quarter of 2017 compared to previous quarter.
According to Eurostat's figures released Wednesday by Eurostat, employment increased by 1.6 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU in the second quarter of 2017 comparted to same period last year.
Eurostat also estimated that, in the second quarter of 2017, 235.4 million men and women were employed in the EU, of which 155.6 million were in the euro area.
These are the highest levels ever recorded in both areas, it noted. (end) nk.ma
