France picks special envoy for Gulf

PARIS, Sept 5 (KUNA) -- France's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that it chose its former ambassador to Saudi Arabia as a special envoy for the Arabian Gulf in a bid to ease out regional tensions.
"I confirm that Bertrand Besancenot, diplomatic advisor to the government, will soon go to the region to evaluate the situation and the best ways to support the mediation and appease tensions between Qatar and its neighbors," the ministry said in a statement.
His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is leading mediation efforts to resolve the problem, which began in early June. (end) mjz.mt
