Airbus signs MoU worth USD 4.0 bln with China's Cathay Pacific

PARIS, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- European aircraft manufacturer Airbus on Monday announced it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the estimated USD 4.06 billion sale of 32 new planes to the Cathay Pacific group for use on routes in Asia.
The deal covers exclusively Airbus A321-Neo carriers which are upgrades on earlier versions and provide for lower fuel consumption and better environmental performance. The plane has a capacity of 240 passengers in single-aisle configuration.
No price for the deal was officially released by Airbus but the catalogue price for the A321-Neo is put at USD 127 million, with varying adjustments for spare parts and training according to the volume of contracts.
Cathay Pacific intends to use the new aircraft on routes from its Hong Kong base to destinations throughout Asia, many on mainland China.
More destinations are also to be added with the fleet expansion, a statement from Airbus noted. (end) jk.mt
