KUWAIT, July 25 (KUNA) -- Director of the Smithsonian Institution's International Relations and Global Programs, Molly Fannon, said Tuesday Kuwaiti cultural institutions have achieved a unique quantum leap in the region.
Speaking at a seminar at Al-Shaheed Park on the sidelines of a visit by a Smithsonian delegation, she said she looks forward to cooperating with Kuwaiti cultural agencies.
She added that the visit mainly aims at getting familiar with cultural projects, including Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, Al-Shaheed Park and Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Center, and at seeking cooperation with them.
Fannon added that Smithsonian eyes cooperation in Kuwaiti cultural investments, and contribution with all its potential and experience to revamping such investments.
She went on saying that her institution would also seek to create a platform for talented and gifted Kuwaitis to manifest their capabilities.
She quoted the Smithsonian Institution's delegation members as being very impressed by earnestness and professionalism at cultural institutions in Kuwait.
On his part, Samie Al-Masri, CEO of the operating company of Al-Shaheed Park, said cooperation between Smithsonian Institution and the State of Kuwait focuses on creating communication strategies and hosting different exhibitions.
He added that cooperation between both sides also aims at establishing training and development centers with a view to promoting Kuwait's historical and cultural heritage.
The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 19 museums.
The Institution was founded in 1846 with funds from the Englishman James Smithson (1765-1829) according to his wishes "under the name of the Smithsonian Institution, an establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge." (end) hjb.amh.mt
