China's second quarter GDP flat at 6.9 percent

TOKYO, July 17 (KUNA) -- China's economy grew 6.9 percent year-on-year in the second quarter, official data showed Monday.
The growth of gross domestic product (GDP) in the April-June period is unchanged from the previous three months, which posted the fastest pace of expansion since the third quarter of 2015, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
The index was in line with the government-set 2017 growth target range of around 6.5 percent. In the first half of the year, GDP of the world's No. 2 economy also rose 6.9 percent on the year.
"China's economy has been operating within a reasonable range, maintaining stable, coordinated and sustainable development," bureau spokesman Xing Zhihong told a press conference in Beijing, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency. (end).
