AMMAN, July 4 (KUNA) -- Bashar Al-Jaafari, head of the Syrian regime to the talks with opposition in Astana, Kazakhstan's capital, said Tuesday his delegation was still discussing mechanisms to implement an agreement on safe zones in Syria.
Jaafari, also Syria's representative to the UN, said his delegation spent the whole day talking with the Russian and Iranian delegation over the implementation of the agreement, the official SANA news agency reported.
He said the fifth round of negotiations in Astana would deal with the de-escalation agreement, which was approved in the last round.
The fifth round of Syrian peace talks kicked off in Astana earlier today, with the participation of Syrian government and opposition parties.
All delegations participating in this round of talks have arrived in Astana and have already started bilateral talks. The round of talks will begin on Wednesday.
Talks are to focus on establishing de-escalation zones in Syria, and ways to develop appropriate monitory mechanisms. Delegations from Russia, Syria, Iran, Turkey and Jordan are partaking in talks. (end) tk.bs
