Security operations kill 11 rebels S. Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, June 2 (KUNA) -- At least 11 Taliban rebels were killed and six others wounded in two different incidents in Afghanistan's southern Ghazni and Zabul provinces, said Ministry of Defense (MoD) on Friday.
According to MoD, at least five Taliban rebels have been blown up by the explosives they were planting in Ghazni province. Only the insurgents planting the bomb in Andar district of the province were killed in the explosion, a statement from the ministry said, adding that civilians were not harmed.
Moreover, at least six Taliban fighters were killed and as many wounded in an overnight security operation in the Shah Joi district of Zabul province. The ministry said four of the dead were foreign "terrorists" but did not give their nationalities.
According to local media, Taliban have not yet commented on either incident. The incidents came at a time when Taliban have paced up their attacks across Afghanistan following their summer offensive against the foreign and local security forces. (end) sbk.hb
